A fight that broke out late Monday morning outside the cafeteria at Fort Pierce Westwood High School has resulted in 18 arrests, the St. Lucie County Sheriff’s Office reported.

The cause of the fight is unknown.

St. Lucie County school resource deputies arrested 17 boys and one girl, charging each with a misdemeanor of disrupting a school function, Sheriff Ken Mascara said.

The fight began around 11:30 this morning. The school was placed on a limited lockdown for the rest of the school day. Students were able to go from one classroom to another and to and from the cafeteria, but only one classroom at a time.
