MA. Lawrence School bus driver shot with a pellet gun

Police said a Lawrence school bus driver was shot in the arm with a pellet gun by a student aboard the bus.

Authorities said the 50-year-old driver was not seriously hurt, but radioed to school officials and police to meet the bus at the school because it was unclear what kind of weapon was used. Police said students were escorted off the bus and put in a lock down situation until authorities figured out what they were dealing with.

Police searched numerous Lawrence students’ backpacks. They recovered a BB gun and a pellet gun from two different students, who are now facing criminal charges.

“The pellet gun was a clear plastic, but the other gun — the BB gun — looks like a regular handgun. You couldn’t tell the difference,” said Chief John Romero of the Lawrence Police Department.

Investigators said they did determine the pellet gun was the one that was fired. It was in the possession of a 15-year-old student, who is now facing criminal charges. Police said a 16-year-old student had the BB gun and is also facing charges.

“What we’re hearing now is perhaps they might have been shooting at the floor and one of the pellets might have ricochet,” said Romero.

In addition to the criminal charges, the two students will be disciplined by Lawrence High School.
