Mt. Lebanon Police will increase their presence in and around Mt. Lebanon High School this week after a fight Thursday escalated into a student threatening to use a weapon on another, authorities said.
Deputy Chief Aaron Lauth said school administrators broke up a fight among students Thursday, but while the students were in the principal’s office, one threatened to use a weapon against another.
The student, who was then suspended, didn’t have a weapon, but Principal Brian McFeely sent a notification to parents that police were going to have a greater presence over the next few days as a precaution.
“To reiterate, there was no threat against the school or general school population,” McFeely’s message said. “This is a specific incident between two students.”
Lauth said police had identified all the students involved and would file charges based on the fight and the threats, which stemmed from a history of conflict between the students involved. He reiterated that the increased police presence would be precautionary.
“It’s a matter of just ensuring the safety of other kids, just to make sure (the fight) doesn’t carry on from here,” he said.
